Zolder, Belgium – The weather forecasts were the real protagonist of the second round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series weekend, hosted by the Circuit Zolder, Belgium. With the track conditions continuously changing, Max Lanza was able to gain two importants placements at the wheel of his #88 CAAL Racing, bringing home solid points for the standings.
During the free practices the EuroNASCAR driver faced every time a different track, passing from the full wet, to the dry conditions to the damp one, while the qualifying session was red flagged several times. So Max Lanza was forced to start from the seventh row on the grid. The Italian driver didn’t give up and in Race 1 recovered until the 12th place under the checkered flag on so difficult wet track, that brought to make mistakes many drivers.
The experience of Lanza was very useful in the second race, when the driver of the #88 CAAL Racing choose to start with slick tires on a wet track that was drying itself. A brave choice but the right one, because the black-yellow CAAL Racing car was recovering quickly the field after a careful start. The rain fell again in the last laps, making the track very slippery. After a run off due the few grip, Lanza was able to save the race and bring home important point for the final standings.
“It was a so complicated weekend, the track is normally very tricky in itself, but if you add to this a completely new track every time you started a session, you can understand which weekend we had. I can’t say I’m completely satisfied, we showed good things but at the end did not bring home a good result. On the other hand, we conquered many good points for the championship. Hope to have a more normal weekend in Most!” commented Lanza
The next round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is scheduled on the Czech track of Most on November, the 14th and 15th.
